“El Vuelo de la Cometa”: A Beacon of Hope for Peace in Colombia

In a world marked by violence and uncertainty, El Vuelo de la Cometa, a program led by the Ismael Cala Foundation and Momentia Foundation, has emerged as a beacon of hope for peace in Colombia. This pioneering emotional intelligence initiative has proven to be a catalyst for positive change in the lives of thousands of young people, equipping them with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges with resilience, empathy, and self-awareness.

A Program with Tangible Results

Since its implementation in 2021, El Vuelo de la Cometa has produced transformative results in Caldas, making it the first department in the country to host this high-impact program. In the region, 2,500 young people have been trained in emotional intelligence and personal leadership, experiencing meaningful growth in their ability to recognize and manage emotions, improve self-esteem, and develop a positive vision for the future.

A Significant Impact on Reducing Violence

The numbers speak for themselves: the program has achieved a 25% reduction in violent incidents among participating students, a 23% decrease in communication difficulties and resistance to change, and a 6% drop in intentions to leave school. These measurable results are a clear testament to the transformative power of emotional intelligence in building a more peaceful and resilient society.

A Promising Future for Emotional Education

The Ismael Cala Foundation and Momentia Foundation are not stopping with the success achieved in Caldas. Their goal is to expand to eight countries and train 88,000 young people between the ages of 12 and 17, giving them the tools they need to become agents of positive change in their communities.

In addition, they seek to make emotional intelligence education a required part of the curriculum in public educational institutions, recognizing its essential role in the holistic human development of future generations.

A Call to Action

The success of El Vuelo de la Cometa is a call to action for every sector of society. It requires a collective commitment to invest in the emotional education of young people and provide them with the tools they need to build a more peaceful, prosperous, and hopeful future.

Together, we can transform Colombian society from within by cultivating a culture of peace and nonviolence through the development of emotional intelligence.
